Job Detail

Assists in calibration and repair of all types of artillery and small arms.

Provides advice and makes, recommendations to the commander aid staff on all matters pertain to enlisted personnel and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections and visits and at ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities facilities aid personnel as prescribed by the commander; holds First Sergeants' or Sergeants' Major call to announce information and instructions; insures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs, of the service, and command regulations or policies; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted personnel of the command; inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; sits as president or, member of command promotion board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; performs other duties prescribed by, the commander.

Must know nomenclature and operation of weapons repaired in unit to which assigned; must know rigging procedures for hoisting heavy objects; must know nomenclature procedures, and equipment used in ballistics test for measuring muzzle velocity of artillery pieces; must know safety precautions to be followed in repair of artillery and small arms; must be able to read and understand technical manuals pertaining to repair of artillery and small arms; must be able to use common and specialized mechanic's hand tools; must be qualified as Small Arms Repairman (45B20); Artillery Calibration Specialist (45D20); Tank Turret Repairman (45K30); or Artillery Repairman (45L20); must know publications pertaining to armament materiel; must know test and inspection procedures applicable to armament maintenance; must be able to use measuring devices, special tools, and test equipment in inspection of armament; must be able to determine nature and extent of damage to weapons and components; must be able to determine that completed repairs comply with standards prescribed in applicable publications.

Must know test and inspection procedures applicable to armament maintenance; must know layout of maintenance shops and utilization of shop tools and equipment; must know fundamentals of leadership and job management; must know capabilities, limitations, and operation of machinery and equipment in shop to which assigned; must know pertinent unit administrative procedures and supply channels; must know forms and procedures necessary to procure parts, materiel and supplies; must be able to estimate time required for specific jobs; must be able to determine whether repairs or replacement parts are needed and what method or repair of fabrication should be used; must be able to organize and direct work of subordinate personnel to produce maximum efficiency; must be able to interpret and apply information contained in technical publications; must be able to organize and administer personnel training programs; must be qualified as Armament Maintenance Foreman (45Z40); must know technical or tactical missions, responsibilities, and operations of unit to which assigned; must know military subjects, Army clerical and administrative procedures, regulations, and directives applicable to unit staff operations; must know channels of communications, supply, and maintenance; must be able to utilize TOE, TDA, supply bulletins, and modification work orders; must be able to plan, coordinate, supervise activities pertaining to organization, training, and tactical and technical operations of subordinate units or major rebuild activities.
