Unpacks, inspects, and classifies ammunition according to its degree of serviceability.

Must be qualified as Ammunition Renovation Specialist (55C20); must know standard techniques of work simplification; must know machine shop procedures and be able to use precision measuring tools; must know supply and administrative procedures of unit to which assigned; must be able to perform surveillance inspection; must be able to make accurate estimates of requirements for personnel, tools, and equipment and supplies for renovation operations; must be able to plan renovation operations, to include writing of Process Flow Sheets and Job Description Sheets and making sketches of operation layout; must be able to supervise conduct of renovation operations; must be able to detect and correct by instruction and demonstration any improper or unsafe work procedures; must be able to design and improvise tools and equipment required for unusual renovation operations for which standard tools and equipment are not available; must be able to interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications; must be qualified as Ammunition Foreman (55Z40); Ammunition Storage Specialist (55B40), Ammunition Renovation Specialist (55C40); or Missile Propellant-Explosive Specialist (55F40); must know technical or tactical mission, responsibilities, and operations of company to which assigned; must know techniques and tactics pertaining to unit defense; must know military subjects including drill and parade formations, field sanitation, field mess operations, selection of bivouac areas, and use of small arms; must know Army clerical, personnel, and administrative procedures, regulations, and directives applicable to company operations; must know format of Army correspondence, format of company orders, preparation of morning report, maintenance of duty rosters, and regulations governing mail service at company level; must know command and supply channels servicing company; must have fundamental knowledge of requisitioning and storage of food rations, preparation and serving of food, and care of mess equipment to assure that unit mess meets prescribed standards; must know office management and supervisory techniques and responsibilities; must know military organization and procedures applicable to battalion or higher echelon headquarters; must know publications and directives governing Army administrative procedures; must know precedence of military directives; must know Army chain of command and lines of communications; must know organization and operation of administrative message centers; must know precautions to be exercised in handling classified material; must know directives and procedures governing publication and distribution of military orders, bulletins, circulars, and memorandum; must be able to use directives, manuals, and regulations to locate specific policies and procedures when needed; must be able to plan, coordinate, and supervise activities pertaining to organization, training, and tactical and technical operations of lower echelon units; must be able to read and utilize TOE, TDA, and supply manuals; must know techniques and capabilities of automatic data processing with regard to input, filing, processing, and output.

Must have detailed knowledge of construction and functioning of all ammunition items; must know safety precautions and regulations pertaining to storage, handling, and renovation of ammunition; must know operation, care, and maintenance of all tools and equipment used in inspection and renovation of ammunition; must know standard renovation procedures; must know techniques for destroying unserviceable, nonreparable ammunition; must be able to read and understand technical publications and standing operating procedures; must be able to perform acceptance inspection on reworked ammunition.
