Assists in establishment, administration and application of defensive chemical, biological, and radiological warfare.

Must be able to perform the duties of Chemical Staff Specialist, 54E20; plans, coordinates, and supervises training and technical operation of chemical element smaller than battalion; supervises preparation of reports supply and maintenance records, and unit and individual training Records; assists in planning for operational employment of chemical units; collects, interprets, analyses, and disseminates chemical information and data; coordinates operational requirements of subordinate units with major supported units; as a 54E50, must be able to perform the duties of Chemical Staff Specialist, 54E40; plans, coordinates, and supervises training and technical operation of chemical battalion or higher level unit or chemical division staff section; assists appraisal of chemical operation and training; serves as First Sergeant of a company; interprets and supervises execution of company policy and SOP; assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities that support the company mission; advises company commander on all matters concerning enlisted personnel, to include assignments, reassignments, transfers, promotions, granting of passes and leave, punishments, welfare, privileges, and awards; directs and coordinates company administration; forms unit for drill, ceremonies, and other military formations; receives report of personnel present and absent, and reports number of unauthorized absences; holds NCO call to disseminate instructions and information to subordinate enlisted supervisors; coordinates operation of company food service and supply activities; assists company commander in accomplishing unit training; assists in inspection of organizational activities as prescribed by commander, observes discrepancies, and initiates appropriate corrective action.

Processes and distributes toxic warfare intelligence reports; assists in staff preparation and analysis of records, reports, maps, sketches, and overlays related to toxic warfare training and staff operations; observes and corrects teaching techniques and procedures of toxic warfare instructors in subordinate units; demonstrates new methods and techniques for operation and maintenance of chemical equipment; assists in the preparation of reports, chemical supply and maintenance records, and unit and individual training records; calculates effects of weather on chemical supplies, equipment, and operations; assists in staff analysis of chemical target vulnerability; assists in predicting enemy casualties; assists in planning offensive and defensive chemical, smoke, flame, radiological, biological-defense, and decontamination operations; identifies physiological and field behavioral effects of chemical agents; instructs classes in first aid measures to counteract effects of chemical agents; detects and identifies chemical agents and munitions; assists in evaluation and coordination of weapon systems for chemical employment; computes chemical munitions requirements for special operations; predicts effects of temperature gradient on chemical operations; calculates and advises ground surface condition effect on chemical agents; assists in preparation and evaluation of NBC reports; prepares simplified fallout prediction plots; computes dosimeter correction factors; assists in computation of radiation factors effecting personnel, equipment and operations.
