Supervises or repairs chemical equipment.

Must be able to perform the duties of Chemical Equipment Repairman, 54D20; supervises personnel involved in repair of chemical equipment; inspects and evaluates repair facilities, material, and activities to insure work accuracy and compliance with established procedures, policies and directives; estimates requirements for AR 611-201 maintenance supplies; establishes priorities and assigns work to subordinates; establishes work methods and performance standards; determines condition of equipment repairs needed and echelon of repair; insures compliance to maintenance supply procedures for spare parts, tools, and equipment; supervises and technically assists in operation of property disposal function and repair parts interchangeability in field and depot maintenance of chemical equipment; establishes and conducts on-the-job training; coordinates with maintenance activities on repairable component repair actions; prepares records and reports on maintenance activities; must be able to perform the duties of Chemical Equipment Repairman, 54D40; serves as First Sergeant of a company; interprets and supervises execution of company policy and SOP; assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities that support the company mission; advises company commander on all matters concerning enlisted personnel, to include assignments, reassignments, transfers, promotions, granting of passes and leave, punishments, welfare, privileges, and awards; directs and coordinates company administration; forms unit for drill, ceremonies, and other military formations; receives report of personnel present and absent, and reports number of unauthorized absences; holds NCO call to disseminate instructions and information to subordinate enlisted supervisors; coordinates operation of company food service and supply activities; assists company commander in accomplishing unit training; assists in inspection of organizational activities as prescribed by commander, observes discrepancies, and initiates appropriate corrective action; perform unit level maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.

Must be able to perform the duties of Chemical Equipment Repairman, 54D40 or Chemical Staff Specialist, 54E40; serves as First Sergeant of a company; interprets and supervises execution of company policy and SOP; assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities that support the company mission; advises company commander on all matters concerning enlisted personnel, to include assignments, reassignments, transfers, promotions, granting of passes and leave, punishments, welfare, privileges, and awards; directs and coordinates company administration; forms unit for drill, ceremonies, and other military formations; receives report of personnel present and absent, and reports number of unauthorized absences; holds NCO call to disseminate instructions and information to subordinate enlisted supervisors; coordinates operation of company food service and supply activities; assists company commander in accomplishing unit training; assists in inspection of organizational activities as prescribed by commander, observes discrepancies, and initiates appropriate corrective action.

Performs organizational, direct support, general support, and depot maintenance on chemical equipment, such as gas masks, smoke generators, portable flamethrowers, portable and truck-mounted decontaminating equipment; inspects and test operates defective equipment or components; determines type and cause of malfunction, extent of repair need and quality of repair work performed; disconnects and assembles equipment components such as carburetor, fuel pump, or furnace assembly; cleans, makes minor adjustments or replaces defective parts using common hand tools; performs rough shaping operation, such as sawing or soldering to repair damaged metal parts; makes final adjustments to equipment, to obtain optimum operation; sews ripped or torn canvas straps and face pieces of gas masks; secures loose components by re-cementing or rewiring; replaces irreparable eyepieces, canisters, and other components.
