Operates plants to manufacture carbon dioxide, dry ice, and hydrogen.

Must know capabilities, limitations, and functions of all military types of carbon dioxide, dry ice, and hydrogen generating units and allied equipment; must know general principles and theory of pressure, vacuum, humidity, vaporization, condensation, heat conduction, radiation, and convection as applied to air, gases, liquids, and solids; must know all operating procedures, safety measures, and hazards pertinent to hydrogen and carbon dioxide producing equipment, particularly those involved with high pressures and extremely low temperatures; must know procedures for combating fires caused by petroleum and other organic derivatives utilized in carbon dioxide processing; must know methods of production, storage, and conversion of gaseous and solidified carbon dioxide; must know methods of cylinder inspection, testing, charging, handling, and storage; must know how and be able to perform preventive maintenance and assist in performance of organizational and field maintenance of units and components of carbon dioxide and hydrogen producing equipment under competent supervision.

Must be qualified as Carbon Dioxide-Hydrogen Production Specialist (53C20); must know theory and characteristics of operational cycle of liquid and solid carbon dioxide and hydrogen equipment; must know theory of chemical reactions and thermodynamics, physics, and chemistry related to production of carbon dioxide and hydrogen; must know how to isolate and correct malfunctions of carbon dioxide and hydrogen generating and associated equipment; must know safety procedures pertinent to storage and handling of plant products; must be able to coordinate plant operations and maintenance.
