Job Detail

Inspects, positions, loads, and performs maintenance on aircraft armament subsystems to include both armament and fire control elements.

Must be qualified as an Aircraft Armament Subsystem Mechanic (45M20); must know capabilities of maintenance equipment and subordinate personnel to establish workload schedules and priorities; must know general shop planning for maintenance of aircraft armament subsystems; must know administrative and supply channels of unit to which assigned; must be able to diagnose and determine causes of unusual malfunctions in aircraft armament systems, fire control equipment, and systems peculiar and standard test devices; must be able to prepare and maintain records pertinent to organizational maintenance of aircraft armament subsystems; must be able to interpret and apply safety precautions pertaining to ammunition handling; must be able to interpret and apply information contained in technical publications relating to aircraft armament systems; must be able to establish maintenance controls and performance standards; must be able to evaluate work performance of subordinates in terms of compliance with policies, directives, technical publications, and regulations; must be able to correct faulty work practices by demonstration and instruction; the mechanical maintenance supervisor supervises, plans, coordinates, and directs the unit, direct support and general support (DS/GS) maintenance of all mechanical equipment; (1) serving as principal maintenance or operations NCO in maintenance battalion or higher level organization; (2) supervising personnel performing the duties of (a) Machinist (44E4O); (b) Armament/fire control maintenance supervisor (45Z4O); (c) Construction equipment repairer (62B4O); (d) Track vehicle repairer (63H4O).

Must know scope and techniques of organizational maintenance of aircraft armament and fire control systems; must know fundamentals of operation and functioning of aircraft armament systems, associated maintenance equipment, and simulators to include location and nomenclature of components; must know basic electronic/electrical fundamentals as pertains to organizational maintenance of armament systems, fire control equipment, standard and systems peculiar test equipment; must know organizational maintenance procedures and techniques regarding identification, use, handling, loading, arming, mounting, disarming, unloading and safety precautions pertinent to ammunition used with aircraft armament systems; must know general techniques and procedures pertaining to inspection, testing, troubleshooting, disassembly, repair, assembly and adjustments of elements of aircraft armament systems and fire control equipment; must know safety precautions to be exercised in test operation and maintenance of aircraft armament and fire control systems; must be able to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical and hydraulic systems diagrams and understand related technical literature; must be able to use electrician's and mechanic's common and special hand tools; must be able to use test and measuring devices, and interpret and apply information from their use.
