Fabricates, constructs, and repairs fixed dental prosthetic appliances.

The Chief Medical NCO is the principal non-commissioned officer who supervises and performs related duties as the senior advisor to Commanders, Directors, and Chiefs of Departments and staff agencies on all matters pertaining to enlisted personnel; perform these duties in multifunctional medical and dental treatment facilities, medical staff activities, or in medical units formed under the Table of Organization and Equipment (TOE), or Table of Distribution and Allowances (TDA) concept; the Chief Medical NCO must be qualified in one of the following seven MOS (91E, 91G, 91J, 91M, 91P, 91Q, and 91W) at the grade MSG; must be knowledgeable in technical mission, responsibilities and operations of all medical functional activities; to include division and higher levels of medical special, general and joint staff sections, large and medium size hospitals, health centers and clinics, battery, company and troop size units, and all levels of echelons for medical organizations to include all major commands; must be able to plan, coordinate and supervise activities pertaining to unit organization, training, tactical and technical operations.

Must be qualified as Dental Removable Prosthetic Specialist (42D10); must know dental and oral anatomy as it relates to fixed dental prosthetic fabrication; must know procedures and techniques involved in preparation of fixed prosthetic dental inlays, crowns, and bridges; must know physical and chemical properties of materials used in fabrication of fixed dentures; must know use of casting and soldering fluxes and various soldering techniques; must know techniques involved in fusing porcelain, use of platinum in porcelain prosthesis, and procedures for fusing porcelain, use of platinum in porcelain prosthesis, and procedures for ceramic firing and glazing; must know all types of dental golds and their associated solders; must be able to wax, invest, cast, and finish complex crowns, inlays, and pontics; must be able to construct acrylic jacket crowns and acrylic veneers for metal crowns and bridges; must be skilled in carving, shaping, and finishing of fixed dentures to insure proper anatomic, physiologic, and esthetic qualities.

Must be qualified as Dental Removal Prosthetic Specialist (42D20) or Dental Fixed Prosthetic Specialist (42F20); must know technical mission, responsibilities, and operation of dental laboratories; must know administrative channels and organizational structure of dental laboratories; must know capabilities and limitations of subordinate personnel; must know methods of obtaining nonstandard items in open market; must know dental laboratory training methods and management fundamentals; must be able to plan and organize work schedules, assign duties, and instruct subordinates in proper work techniques and procedures; must be able to requisition supplies, and review, consolidate, and prepare technical, personnel, and administrative reports.
