Supervises or participates in location of targets, using sound and flash ranging equipment.

Must be able to supervise personnel performing duties of FA Target Acquisition Radar Crewman (17B40) or FA Target Acquisition Specialist (17C40) or FA Surveyor (82C40) or FA Meteorological Crewman (93F40); serves as principal NCO in target acquisition battery; serves as intelligence NCO infield artillery battalion; coordinates target acquisition collection activities; collects, interprets, analyzes, and evaluates intelligence and target acquisition data; identifies and indicates location, strength, tactical deployment, and emplacement of enemy units; develops targets from target acquisition information; reads and interprets maps and aerial photos; plots, records, and reports targets; keeps situation maps, charts, and overlays; maintains classified files and records; processes individual security clearances; performs principal noncommissioned officer duties associated with SQI M; provides advice and makes, recommendations to the commander aid staff on all matters pertain to enlisted personnel and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections and visits and at ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities facilities aid personnel as prescribed by the commander; holds First Sergeants' or Sergeants' Major call to announce information and instructions; insures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs, of the service, and command regulations or policies; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted personnel of the command; inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; sits as president or, member of command promotion board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; performs other duties prescribed by, the commander.

Emplaces and operates sound/flash ranging equipment; establishes/operates sound/flash observation post; establishes observation post; initiates sound ranging recordings; measures range and horizontal and vertical angles to weapon flashes and projectile bursts; operates digital message device (DMD) to transmit target information; operates ground laser locator designator (GLLD) system to range and designate hard point targets for directing artillery fire; extracts and computes data from sound record; plots and computes sound/flash data for evaluation; participates in operations and computations to produce sound ranging meteorological message; assists in compiling and processing target information and preparation of overlays; assists in performing triangulation and traverse procedures to locate observation posts and establish directional control; performs organizational maintenance on sound and flash ranging equipment; emplaces, operates and maintains field artillery field illumination equipment; loads/lashes cargo and equipment onto vehicles and unloads from vehicles; transports personnel, supplies and equipment, and weapons and small arms ammunition in vehicles; performs before/during/after operation and scheduled vehicle services; lays field wire; installs field telephones, vehicle radios and radio remote control equipment; erects/dismantles antennas; performs operator checks and maintenance on communication equipment; transmits and receives on communications equipment; monitors radio broadcasts; employs principles of cover, concealment and camouflage; fires individual and crew served weapons in defense of position; protects self, weapons and equipment from chemical and other contaminates; employs principles of escape and evasion; administers first aid and applies field sanitation methods; performs land navigation duties; constructs fortifications, bunkers and crew served weapons emplacements; performs outpost, listening post and security guard duties; computes and evaluates sound/flash ranging data; supervises searchlight section; performs duties shown at preceding level of skill and provides technical guidance to lower grade personnel in accomplishment of these duties; operates sound recording equipment; performs operations and computations to produce sound ranging meteorological message; performs triangulation and traverse procedures to locate flash observation posts and establish directional control; orients and calibrates flash ranging instruments; operates flash switchboard and enforces flash communications discipline; assists in supervising operation of sound/flash control center; supervises employment operation and maintenance of field artillery field illumination equipment; supervises operation of sound/flash ranging section; controls operation of sound/flash observation posts; supervises computation of sound/flash data, and verifies, interprets, and reports results; accepts, evaluates, processes, correlates, and reports target information; supervises maintenance of sound/flash ranging equipment, vehicles, and section equipment; assists in supervising operation of sound/flash processing section.
