Supervise or operate electric, pneumatic, and internal combustion powered machines; detonates explosives to blast rock in quarries and at construction sites.

The engineer senior sergeant inspects and advises on bridging, rafting, and river crossing operations; supervises general engineering activities related to all construction and utility operations; formulates and maintains construction schedules; assist in supervision of troops in assault operations; perform ground and aerial reconnaissance; advises engineer staff section personnel in matters involving combat engineer operations; assist engineering officer in construction planning, scheduling, and material estimating; assist in the preparation of operation orders, standing operating procedures, and contingency plans; coordinates with staff agencies for engineer operational and tactical support; coordinates employment of engineer elements operating with infantry and armored units; inspects construction sites and enforces job specification and safety standards; collects, interprets, analyzes, evaluates, and disseminates intelligence data; provides staff supervision and principal noncommissioned officer direction to units engaged in performing engineering missions; inspects construction and training activities; supervises performance of combat engineering missions; provides advice and makes recommendations to the commander and staff on all matters pertaining to enlisted soldiers and their families; accompanies the commander on inspections, visits and ceremonies; assists in inspection of command activities, facilities and personnel as prescribed by the commander; ensures adherence to command policies; holds First Sergeants' or Sergeants' Major call to announce information and instruction; ensures that newly assigned enlisted personnel are instructed in military courtesy, customs of the service and command regulations or policies; responsible for monitoring training or conducts training of enlisted soldiers; assesses training at all levels and provides feedback to appropriate commanders and leaders; provides counsel and guidance to NCOs and other enlisted soldiers of the command; responsible for and provides guidance on Non-Commissioned Officer Education System (NCOES) and Non-Commissioned Officer Development Program (NCODP); inspects duties performed by subordinate NCOs; notes discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective action; assists in reception of visitors to the command; serves as president or member of command promotion board or removal board for NCOs, as authorized by regulations; sits as chairperson or member of a command's Military Member of the Quarter/Year competition for enlisted soldiers or NCOs, as directed by local regulations; responsible for quality, control and training of noncommissioned officer evaluation reports (NCOER) while ensuring timely submissions; reviews evaluation reports to determine compliance with policies and procedures and recommends corrective actions on deficiencies to commanders, other leaders and rating officials; performs other duties prescribed by the commander; assists in the professional development of junior and company grade officers.

Operates rock drills under supervision; assembles, adjusts and operates crushing, screening, conveying, and washing units; assist in blasting operations; assist in performance of combat engineer missions; direct the erection of rock processing equipment; determines screen sizes and crusher settings to produce aggregate to specifications; directs quarry rock excavation to produce required sizes and tonnage of rock; performs as blaster; conducts and plan quarry reconnaissance and plant layout; supervise the setup and calibration of a rock processing plant; plans and supervises blasting operations; supervise rock production operations; directs combat engineering missions.

Serve as a Senior Horizontal Construction Supervisor, Platoon Sergeant, organizes the overall construction workload; devises network flow diagrams such as the critical path method and coordinates work activities of supporting units; plans, organizes, and supervises all engineer construction equipment operations, including mobility and counter-mobility missions; develops and executes a quality control plan and standard procedures for area of responsibility; the general engineering supervisor supervises general engineering activities related to all construction and utility operations; assist engineering officer in construction planning, scheduling, and material estimating; assist in the preparation of operation orders, standing operating procedures, and contingency plans; provides staff supervision and principal noncommissioned officer direction to units engaged in performing general engineering missions; inspect construction and training activities; supervise performance of combat engineering missions.
