Supervises or participates in aerial surveillance operations employing OV-1B/C sensor systems.

Supervises aerial surveillance at platoon or detachment level; performs duties shown in preceding level of skill and provides technical guidance to lower grade personnel in accomplishment of these duties; supervises operations and activities of platoon or detachment to which assigned; plans and organizes work schedules, assigns duties and instructs section sergeant in proper work techniques and procedures; reviews/critiques mission results obtained by unit subordinates; directs and conducts MOHAWK aviation peculiar standardization training for subordinate personnel; advises commander on management of internal assets and participates in planning employment and management of aerial surveillance and associated systems; advises commander on interface of aerial surveillance with ground surveillance; coordinates personnel and aerial sensor section of data terminal section/team employment/deployment and operational supply and maintenance support requirements; must be qualified in one of the following MOS; 17B20; 17C20; 17D20; 17E40; 17K20; 17L20; 82C20; or 93F20; must know principles of combat surveillance and target acquisition; must know organization and methods of employment of radar, sound ranging, flash ranging, survey, meteorology and observation elements; must know characteristics, capabilities, and limitations of combat surveillance and target acquisition equipment; must know techniques of plotting, recording, and reporting targets; must be able to develop targets from combat surveillance information; must have a general knowledge of capabilities and limitations of combat surveillance elements, to include ground surveillance radars, long range patrol, side-looking airborne radars, airborne photography and infrared systems, and tactical air reconnaissance; must know tactical mission of unit to which assigned; must know tactics and techniques of unit defense; must be able to supervise field sanitation, mess and supply operations within the unit to which assigned; must know battalion administrative procedures and be able to supervise preparation of correspondence, morning report, duty rosters and battery and battalion orders; must be able to use appropriate administrative and training publications; must have fundamental knowledge of requisitioning and storage of food rations, preparation and serving of food, and care of mess equipment.

Performs aerial surveillance; participates in mission planning for aerial surveillance, aerial visual reconnaissance, aerial search and rescue, aerial radiological survey, and similar intelligence and information gathering missions; performs aerial missions using visual acquisition skill, and operation of manned aerial infrared, radar, photographic or similar sensor systems including associated data transmission links and ground data terminal stations; performs radio communications and aids aviator in aerial navigation; recognizes enemy electronic countermeasures directed against aircraft or ground component communications or sensor system equipment and performs applicable ECCM; visually acquires targets, or interprets target signatures appearing on near real time sensor system displays and renders inflight/during flight spot reports on targets of opportunity as appropriate; participates in mission debriefing and assists image interpreter in interpretation of imagery recordings; performs preflight/preoperational and operator maintenance on assigned sensor, SERE, and associated equipment; supervises or performs aerial surveillance; performs duties shown in preceding level of skill and provides technical guidance to lower grade personnel in accomplishment of these duties; assists aviator in flight planning, weather analysis, navigational computations, and aircraft preflight inspection procedures; prepares for operation and operates aerial surveillance and associated equipment and/or supervises operation of aerial surveillance equipment; performs organizational maintenance; troubleshoots sensor systems equipment to determine nature and location of fault occurrence; records operation and maintenance data in equipment log for support maintenance services; assists image interpreter in interpretation of imagery recordings utilizing image interpretation keys and reference material to obtain essential information; supervises aerial surveillance at section level; provides technical guidance to lower grades in performance of these duties; supervises operations and activities of section to which assigned; supervises inspection and operator maintenance of section assigned SERE equipment and operator and organizational maintenance of assigned sensor and associated equipment; directs and conducts job proficiency and SERE training of subordinates in section to which assigned; assists in planning employment and management of aerial surveillance systems; assists image interpreter in analysis and interpretation of aerial sensor imagery to determine geographical features of terrain and physical features of enemy installations, deployment, weapons, equipment, and defenses; conducts or participates in briefing of commander and staff of supported headquarters on capabilities and limitations of aerial surveillance and similar missions, and on results obtained from their employment.
